Solar Panels For Electricity Generation

In southern hemisphere, solar panels used for generating electricity must face north, whereas those in northern hemispheres must face south to have maximum benefit of solar power or sunlight that is available.

The electricity that is produced by the solar panels is usually measured in kilowatts. Solar energy that is emitted by sun, on the surface of earth of 1 sq meter, has potential to produce 1,000wats of electricity. Solar panel's efficiency depends on the type of solar panel cells that are used in it. Electricity production of solar panels is affected by some of major factors that include clouds, sunlight, snow, and rain.

Solar cells produce electricity by using photoelectric effect. Pure crystalline silicon is not considered a good electricity conductor so atoms of some other elements are added to it. This results in making silicon a good conductor. Solar cells contain two layers of silicon with electrically conductive, transparent layer. After falling of sunlight on these layers of silicon, protons and electrons get excited and start moving in the layers and this flow basically results in the electric current. Moving charges are channelized by electrical contacts and create direct current that is used for charging batteries. This DC current is then converted into alternating current by feeding it to the inventor.

The silicon sheets are layered with the solar cells in such a way that n-type silicon layer is placed on one side whereas p-type on the corresponding side opposite to the n-type silicon layer. Sunlight that falls on solar cells, usually passes through one silicon layer, then transparent layer, and finally to the other silicon layer. In this way electrons are generated and in turn an electrical activity creates an electrical field surrounding the central sheet. Electrical current then starts flowing through the electrically conductive and transparent sheet. These inexpensive solar cells that are simple, easy to handle, and light are used by solar panels to generate electricity.
Solar Panels use has been increased in the last few years, understanding the importance of green energy.
