Siemens Receives Follow-Up Order for Photovoltaic Plants in Central Italy ...03.04.2011

Erlangen, Germany
Siemens Energy has received a follow-up order for the turnkey construction of eight photovoltaic plants in Italy. The solar power plants will be erected in the Marche and Abruzzo regions, between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains. The customer is Viridis Energia, a joint venture between Echidna S.p.A. and La.G.I. S.r.l. After completion in spring 2011 the combined rating of 14 megawatts peak (MWp) will provide about 5,000 households in Italy with environmentally friendly power.

As the EPC contractor, Siemens is responsible for the turnkey construction, engineering and project management of the photovoltaic plants. The scope of supply includes the full range of Siemens components, such as inverters, medium-voltage equipment as well as monitoring systems. Siemens already received an order for the construction of another 3 MWp photovoltaic plants located in the Marche region from the same customer.

“In the last fiscal, Siemens received orders for photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of more than 30 MW from Italy,” said RenĂ© Umlauft, CEO of the Renewable Energy Division. “The Italian market is one of the key large-scale PV markets in Europe. This year the market will continue to grow significantly and we want to participate in this growth."

Photovoltaic plants are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2010, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about EUR28 billion.

Solar is the way!
